FRUITS AS BATTERY AND SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY

The purpose of this project was to find out which fruit would generate enough electricity to light a light bulb and to discover which fruit would light the bulb the longest. To conduct my experiments I used a Multimeter, copper and zinc wires & electrodes, alligator clips with leads, various light bulbs and five types of fruits.continue..

In order to generate electricity, there must be a power source and a complete circuit. When using a citrus fruit to create electricity, these rules still apply. In a simple experiment using a citrus fruit, the components of the circuit include: a lemon or other fruit, wire, two different metal elements and a small light bulb. The lemon in this circuit serves as the battery and power source.continue..

Purpose
To demonstrate how an electrical current can be generated using citrus fruits (such as lemons or limes) that is strong enough to power a small light bulb.
Additional information
Batteries are devices that store chemical energy and convert it to electrical energy. Consisting of one or more voltaic cells, batteries come in various sizes and forms and are integrated into most electronic and portable devices. continue..

Set the fruit on a table and gently roll it around to soften it up. You want the juice to be flowing inside the fruit without breaking its skin. Alternatively, you can squeeze the fruit with your hands.
Insert the zinc and copper nails into the fruit so that they are about 2" or 5 cm apart. You don't want them to be touching each other. Avoid puncturing through the end of the fruit.continue..

Summary
Students use potatoes to light an LED clock (or light bulb) as they learn how a battery works in a simple circuit and how chemical energy changes to electrical energy. As they learn more about electrical energy, they better understand the concepts of voltage, current and resistance.continue..

Vegetable Electricity Conductors
Potatoes, onions and tomatoes are all good vegetable conductors. Tomatoes are most likely the best vegetable conductor since they have the highest acidity level.
Fruit Electricity Conductors
Some good fruit electricity conductors are apples, grapefruit, oranges, lemons and limes. The citrus fruits will be excellent conductors due, again, to the high acidity level.continue..

  2. What is Net Metering?   Net metering is a service to an electric consumer under which electric energy generated by that electric consumer from an eligible on-site generating facility and delivered to the local distribution facilities may be used to offset electric energy provided by the electric utility to the electric consumer during the applicable billing period.  continue.. How does Net Metering Works?   When your home is equipped with a renewable energy source (such as wind or solar power), it sends the excess energy that's generated back into the grid to power other homes. An electrical converter called an inverter turns the DC (direct current) power coming from your renewable energy source into AC (alternating current) power, which matches the voltage of the electricity flowing through the power line.  continue.. INDUCTION COOKER:PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

What is Induction Cooking?   Induction cooking uses induction heating to directly heat a cooking vessel, as opposed to using heat transfer from electrical coils or burning gas as with a traditional cooking stove. To be used on an induction cooktop, a cooking vessel must be made of a ferromagnetic metal, or placed on an interface disk which enables non-induction cookware to be used on induction surface. In an induction cooker, a coil of copper wire is placed underneath the cooking pot. An alternating electric current flows through the coil, which produces an oscillating magnetic field. This field induces an electric current in the pot. Current flowing in the metal pot produces resistive heating which heats the food. While the current is large, it is produced by a low voltage. continue.. Advantage and Disadvantages of Induction Cooker   To serious cooks, the most important favorable point about induction cookers--given that they are as or more "powerful" at heating...

POWER TRANSFORMER FOR POWER SYSTEM

Power Transformer Definition   a transformer that is used to transform AC power in power system networks, radio apparatus, and automatic systems. A power transformer operates with a constant effective voltage. The frequency of power-transformer current in most countries, including the USSR, is 50 hertz (Hz); in the USA and some other countries it is 60 Hz. Power transformers are the most common class of transformers. Transformers have been built (1975) for a power of 1300 megavolt-amperes and a voltage of 750 kilovolts. (For more detail, see.). continue..
