ACSR: ALUMINUM CONDUCTOR STEEL REINFORCED

What is an ACSR?   Aluminum conductor steel reinforced (or ACSR) cable is a specific type of high-capacity, high-strength stranded cable typically used in overhead power lines. The outer strands are aluminum, chosen for its excellent conductivity, low weight and low cost. The center strand is of steel for the strength required to support the weight without stretching the aluminum due to its ductility. This gives the cable an overall high tensile strength.. continue.. Construction, Application and Specification of an ACSR   Overhead transmission line conductors are usually ACSR or AAC to B.S. 215, although the aluminium alloy conductors to B.S. 3242 are also being used. Aluminium wires used in the AAC and ACSR are hard drawn and of 99.5% purity aluminium with a specific resistance of 2.8264 microhm cm. This gives a conductivity of 61 % I.A.C.S. .. continue..
