ELECTRIC EEL : ORGANIC ELECTRIC GENERATOR

What is an Electric Eel?
The electric eel (Electrophorus electricus), is an electric fish, and the only species of the genus Electrophorus. It is capable of generating powerful electric shocks, which it uses for both hunting and self-defense. It is an apex predator in its South American range. Despite its name it is not an eel but rather a knifefish..continue..

Voltage of an Electric Eel?
The electric eel (Electrophorus electricus), which is found in South American tropical regions, has the ability to produce powerful electric charges. The low intensity charges emitted by the eel range from 5 to 10 V. The higher intensity charges vary by the size of the eel. Smaller eels (about 10 cm in length) can produce charges of up to 100 V. Larger eels (over 1 m in length) can produce charges of 450 to 650 volts of electricity. The discharging system of the electric cells was first explained by a Martins-Ferreira, Altamirano and Keynes in 1953..continue..

Animal Facts and Trivia: Electric Eel
An electric eel can produce a shock of up to 650 volts.Electric eels cannot get enough oxygen from water. Approximately every five minutes, they must surface to breathe, or they will drown.Electric Eels can swim both backwards and forwards.Electric Eels have poor eyesight, but can emit a low-level charge, less than 10 volts, which they use like radar to navigate and locate prey..continue..

Wild Facts Electric Eel
Welcome to Wild Facts!  If this is your first time stumbling upon our crazy little place to learn all about animal facts than please feel free to snoop around.  As well you can leave a comment or send me an e-mail if you have any questions or would like some additional information about an animal.  If you happen to be one of the regular readers than welcome back and thanks for all of your support so far.  All of you reading this are in for a shocking post today.  No I mean it will literally be electrifying since we are going to look at the always interesting Electric Eel.  What can possibly be cooler than a fish that can give you a huge electrical shock? Well, I guess it would be pretty groovy if we had sharks with laser beams but let’s not get ridiculous (Bonus Wild Fact point if you caught the movie reference in that last line)..continue..

Fun Facts of an Electric Eel?
Electric eels work like a battery and can discharge from 350 to 650 volts of electricity. The head acts as the positive pole and the tail is the negative pole of the battery. When it is moving it can emit electric impulses up to 25 per second. A 20-foot eel can produce enough electrical current to light 12 household light bulbs. Electric eels are mainly found in the Amazons. These guys can be dangerous and would not make a good pet...continue..

SeaPics: Pictures of Electric Eel
The electric eel, Electrophorus electricus, is a freshwater electrical fish. Of those fish able to generate an electrical discharge, electric eels are by far the most effective, producing up to 600 volts, which it uses for both hunting and self-defense. Electric eels live in muddy waters of the middle and lower Amazon and Orinoco River basins in South America, gulping air at the surface for most of its oxygen needs, instead of in the poorly oxygenated muddy water. They have poor vision and use electro location, low level electrical fields, to navigate. Higher levels of voltage are used to kill prey or defend themselves from predators. Juveniles eat invertebrates such as crabs and freshwater shrimp. Adults will eat amphibians, fish and crustaceans...continue..

FRUITS AS BATTERY AND SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY

Electric Fruits Project   The purpose of this project was to find out which fruit would generate enough electricity to light a light bulb and to discover which fruit would light the bulb the longest. To conduct my experiments I used a Multimeter, copper and zinc wires & electrodes, alligator clips with leads, various light bulbs and five types of fruits. continue.. Why Do Citrus Fruits Produce Electricity?   In order to generate electricity, there must be a power source and a complete circuit. When using a citrus fruit to create electricity, these rules still apply. In a simple experiment using a citrus fruit, the components of the circuit include: a lemon or other fruit, wire, two different metal elements and a small light bulb. The lemon in this circuit serves as the battery and power source. continue.. Fruit Power Project   Purpose To demonstrate how an electrical current can be generated using citrus fruits (such as lemons or limes) that is strong enough to power a small

POWER SYSTEMS LOSS.COM: LOSSES IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

What is powersystemsloss all about?    System's loss reduction is now one of the most growing trends in every electric distribution utility. Primarily triggered by economics and regulation concerns, Transmission and Distribution companies now sets more focus in reducing losses and become as an efficient utility as possible in delivering power. Information found in this site will be very useful not only to electrical practitioners but it is also our goal to help students better understand the actual world. Thank you and lets all enjoy learning! continue..   Back to basic    n case you don't know, the power we get from our household electrical outlet didn't just appear in the thin air. It may appear that it is coming out from our walls but we all know that looks can be deceiving. Before reaching our respective homes, electric current passes through miles and miles of conductors. W

ELECTROCUTION: ELECTRIC ACCIDENT THAT CAN BE AVOIDIED

Electrocution   Electrocution is a type of electric shock that, as determined by a stopped heart, can end life. Electrocution is frequently used to refer to any electric shock received but is technically incorrect; the choice of definition varies from dictionary to dictionary. However, in the vernacular, the term electrocution is used to mean: death, murder or a sudden accident caused by an electric shock. deliberate execution by means of an electric shock, such as an electric chair; the word "electrocution" is a portmanteau for "electrical execution".. continue.. Electric Shock   Electric Shock of a (human) body with any source of electricity that causes a sufficient current through the skin, muscles or hair. Typically, the expression is used to denote an unwanted exposure to electricity, hence the effects are considered undesirable. The minimum current a human can feel depends on the current type (AC or DC) and frequency. A person can feel at least 1 mA (rm
